Job Description

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dar es Salaam has a vacant position for Adviser/Program Officer for Political Affairs. This is a temporary position with a possibility of prolongment. The successful candidate will assume the position from March 2025.

The Adviser/Program Officer will be a part of our Political Team and will advise the Embassy on Tanzanian and regional political developments as well as managing development cooperation agreements pertaining to the Embassy’s work on good governance, peace and stability, human rights, and gender equality.

Key Deliverables

  • Strengthen the Embassy’s political reporting on Tanzanian affairs and its role in the region.
  • Broaden the Embassy’s professional network in Tanzania.
  • Raise the profile of Norway in Tanzania by contributing to the Embassy’s public diplomacy efforts (including the organisation of events).
  • Manage relevant development cooperation agreements, including assessing new projects and closing old ones; monitoring and evaluation; preparation of meetings and documentation; archiving, correspondence, and external communication.

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities
  • At least three years relevant working experience, preferably from an international working environment such as embassies, international organisations, NGOs, or international news media.
  • Very good knowledge of Tanzanian politics and political actors.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including familiarity with plain language practices and demonstrated ability to write concise reports and analyses (shortlisted candidates may be requested to provide a writing sample in English).
  • University education (preferably a master’s degree), or equally relevant professional experience.
  • Professional experience with grant management, including assessment of budgets and financial reports.
  • Strong ICT skills.
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili.
  • Knowledge of other relevant languages is an asset.
