Pathfinder is seeking a Director of Capacity Building and Local Partnerships for the implementation of a project to be funded by USAID.

Job Summary:

The Capacity Building and Local Partnership Director will play a key role in the quality of the partnership between the project, government institutions and local organizations with a view to strengthening the health system in Burundi. He/she will ensure the organization, support and quality of the contribution of local partners in the project consortium. The Director will also ensure that the partnerships established within the framework of the project are productive and allow its objectives to be achieved.

Key Deliverables

  • Develop and implement a local capacity building strategy. Provide guidance on the partnership between the project, government institutions and national partner organizations of the project;
  • Develop and make available to the project a capacity building strategy for partner organizations in the project, both for government institutions and local organizations;
  • Support local actors to achieve their objectives;
  • Develop and implement a progressive tool for measuring the performance of each organization;
  • Channel and supervise the activities of local partners (government and local organizations) to achieve indicators of strengthening the health system.

Development and management of partnerships:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local partners by serving as the primary point of contact and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives;
  • Visit and engage with local government partners and local organizations for ongoing dialogue on project implementation.

Collaboration and innovation:

  • Work closely with program teams to identify opportunities for partnership and co-creation of innovative solutions to address key programmatic needs and challenges;
  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative initiatives that leverage partners' resources, expertise and networks to achieve impact at scale.

Monitoring and reporting:

  • Develop and implement mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of partnerships and initiatives by tracking key performance indicators and impact measures;
  • Prepare regular reports and updates on private sector engagement activities for internal stakeholders and external partners.

Pathfinder Representation:

Represent the project at internal and external meetings and conferences.

Essential Qualities

Essential Qualities
  • Master's degree in Health Sciences, Social Sciences or a related discipline.
  • Have worked in the health sector for at least 5 years;
  • Having exercised supervisory/coaching roles for the quality of services to organizations or private companies;
  • Be accustomed to teamwork with proven experience in consulting and being able to inspire others to improve results. Proven experience in developing and managing strategic partnerships, including negotiation, relationship management and stakeholder engagement;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and concepts to diverse audiences;
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills, able to multitask and prioritize in a constantly changing environment;
  • Passionate about the issue of accessibility, strengthening and quality of health service systems to open resilient pathways to sexual and reproductive health and rights for all;
  • Committed to driving positive social change through innovative partnerships and collaborative efforts;
  • In-depth knowledge of the political, social, economic and cultural context of work in Burundi;
  • Demonstration of strategic agility, diplomacy, conflict management, team spirit, written and oral communication, and negotiation skills;
  • Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken.

Minimum Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills:

  • Practical knowledge of the regional health system in Burundi.
  • Communication: Advanced oral and written communication skills;
  • Reporting: Proven ability to read and interpret data for reporting purposes. Proven ability to produce and present standard reports;
  • Software Applications: Advanced knowledge of Office Suite including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint;
  • Organization, Planning and Multitasking: Advanced organizational and planning skills, planning and project management skills. Proven ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and multitask with minimal supervision;
  • Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a discreet and professional manner.
